Brandon Teeth Whitening
Do you keep your lips closed when you smile? Do you cover your mouth when laughing? You’re not alone. The most frequently requested cosmetic dental procedure is teeth whitening. Teeth whitening is a safe, quick and effective way to restore teeth to their natural brightness and enhance a smile that may need a pick-me-up.
As we age teeth become prone to more visible staining and discoloration. With aging, changes in the structure and enamel of teeth make them more susceptible to staining and discoloration. Drinks like coffee, tea, wine, and carbonated, dark colored soft drinks are more likely to stain teeth. Tobacco will also discolor teeth, with regular and prolonged use. If you’re unhappy with the appearance of your stained or discolored teeth make an appointment at Pleasant Smiles Dentistry to discuss your teeth whitening options– together we’ll get you smiling with confidence again!
Am I a Candidate for Teeth Whitening?
While teeth whitening is a safe and effective procedure for most people there are some special considerations that may indicate teeth whitening is not appropriate. Teeth whitening is not recommended for children under 16 or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Individuals with gum disease, cavities, worn enamel or exposed roots are discouraged from undergoing teeth whitening procedures because the whitening agents can irritate the already sensitive gums and teeth. Teeth that have been restored with veneers, cosmetic bonding or crowns will not whiten as natural teeth do, so whitening may lead to unevenly shaded teeth. A consultation with Dr. Pleasant is important to assess your eligibility for a successful teeth whitening procedure.
The Teeth Whitening Procedure at Pleasant Smiles Dentistry
At Pleasant Smiles Dentistry we offer quick in office whitening and prescription strength take home whitening kits for patients who’d prefer to brighten their smile at home. In office whitening is the fastest and most effective way to enhance your smile. When you visit the office for teeth whitening, Dr. Pleasant will review your health and dental history as well as examine your teeth, gums and mouth, checking that you are a good candidate for teeth whitening. It’s important to have your teeth and mouth checked before undergoing any whitening treatment, to avoid any potential adverse side effects and to find the procedure that best supports your oral health and smile goals.
At Pleasant Smiles Dentistry we offer prescription strength teeth whitening products, to brighten your smile more effectively and in less time. An in office whitening treatment takes 30-60 minutes to complete. In office whitening is a painless procedure that yields amazing results in a short period of time. First, the cheeks are retracted to expose the teeth and gums in the front of the mouth. Then the gums are protected with a special gel and the teeth are coated with the whitening agent. The whitening gel sits on the teeth for 30-60 minutes, brightening them to your desired level. Most teeth brighten between 2 and 8 shades in one visit. Keep in mind that the shade of the teeth immediately after the appointment will change slightly as the teeth become rehydrated after the whitening procedure. If for any reason you aren’t satisfied with the results of your teeth whitening procedure don’t hesitate to contact our office for a follow up visit–Dr. Pleasant wants you to be satisfied with your new smile!
At Pleasant Smiles Dentistry we also offer dentist supervised at home whitening options. With at home whitening, a mold of the teeth will be taken at the office and a set of trays will be custom made to fit your mouth. These custom trays will hold the whitening gel closer to your teeth and minimizes the contact between the gel and gums. The teeth can be whitened in the comfort of your home when it’s convenient for you.
